The Blue Coat School Sixth Form is the largest in the city, with 360 students studying in our Year 12 and Year 13.

We have great flexibility in our curriculum – there are 18 A level courses to choose from and it is rare that students aren’t able to study the combination they choose.

Internal Applicants

Current Year 11 students at The Blue Coat School Liverpool who wish to progress to Sixth Form in September 2027 will be provided with information about the application process through school.

Information about subject choices, entry requirements and key dates will be shared with students and parents during the academic year.

Please note that progression to the Sixth Form is subject to meeting the published entry requirements for the chosen courses.

External Applicants

Thank you for your interest in The Blue Coat School Sixth Form.

We admit 175 students into Year 12 each year to study GCE A Level courses. The majority of these places are taken by students progressing from our own Year 11 cohort, with a limited number of places, typically around 15-20, available for external applicants. The exact number of external places varies each year depending on internal student progression and subject availability. As a result, admission to our Sixth Form is highly competitive.

External Applicants Information Event

Prospective students and their parents/carers are invited to attend our External Sixth Form Information Talk and Tour on Saturday 16 January 2027 from 10.00am to 12.00 noon.

This event provides an opportunity to learn more about our Sixth Form courses, entry requirements, enrichment opportunities and student support, followed by a guided tour of the Sixth Form facilities.

Application Process

The application window for entry in September 2027 will open on Thursday 28 January 2027 and close on Friday 26 February 2027.

Independent Appeals

Applicants are entitled to request an independent appeal panel hearing if they are dissatisfied with an admission decision made by The Blue Coat School.
