  • Year 9 Students Complete Bronze Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Expedition

Last weekend, almost the entire Year 9 cohort at The Blue Coat School Liverpool successfully completed their Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Bronze assessed expedition—an important milestone in the Bronze Award programme.

Over the course of two days, students demonstrated impressive independence, teamwork and resilience. Working in small groups, they navigated planned routes, carried their own equipment, prepared meals and managed their time effectively. The expedition is designed to develop essential life skills beyond the classroom, including problem-solving, leadership, communication and perseverance.

Students were assessed on their ability to collaborate, follow routes accurately and respond positively to challenges such as fatigue, changing weather conditions and decision-making under pressure. The scale of participation this year has been particularly impressive, with nearly all of Year 9 taking part. This reflects the strong commitment of both students and staff to the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award programme and the school’s focus on developing well-rounded individuals.

Completing the assessed expedition is a significant achievement. All students involved should be proud of the determination, maturity and resilience they demonstrated throughout the weekend.
