Blue Coat School was delighted to welcome prospective students, families, and members of the local community to our Open Day on Thursday 26th March. The event provided an excellent opportunity to showcase all aspects of school life, from academic excellence to the rich co-curricular experiences available to pupils.
Blue Coat School, the oldest school in Liverpool, has marked a remarkable milestone year with a hugely successful fundraising campaign—raising over £3,200 for local charities supporting those most in need.
Founded in 1708 as a charity school in Liverpool city centre, Blue Coat originally provided free education, clothing, food, and housing for orphaned and disadvantaged children. By 1725, the school moved into a purpose-built site—now the Bluecoat Arts Centre—complete with almshouses to support adults facing housing hardship. Three centuries later, the school continues to honour these founding principles.

Students recently took part in a special Easter Music Concert held at St Nicholas’ Church in Liverpool city centre. The historic setting provided a fitting backdrop for an evening of high-quality musical performance, reflecting both the significance of the Easter season and the exceptional musical talent within the school.
We are thrilled to celebrate Evies outstanding performance at the Historical Association’s Great Debate in London on Saturday 21st March. The event brought together students from across the region to present five-minute speeches in response to a challenging historical question about the role of personal and public records in explaining local history.

The Blue Coat School is proud to champion its Mentors in Violence Prevention (MVP) programme, an important strand of our wider commitment to student leadership, safeguarding, and a culture of respect.
Students from The Blue Coat School delivered an outstanding performance at the Royal College of Organists Young Performers Concert, held at Leeds Cathedral on Monday 16 March as part of the Leeds Lunchtime Organ Music Series 2025/26.

ear 8 students in the Inspirational Learning Group recently took part in a focused Careers Day centred on British Airways, providing a valuable insight into the wide range of opportunities within the aviation industry.
On Friday 13th March, George Francis—a Wavertree native and the current Musical Director of Hadestown in the West End—visited Blue Coat School to speak with students about his experiences in the musical theatre industry.
Students from Blue Coat School had an excellent day at the Maths Competition, competing against a strong field of around 44 teams in person, with additional teams participating online, bringing the total to just over 50 teams.
Blue Coat School was delighted this week to welcome a group of pupils from Bordeaux as part of our long-standing French Exchange programme. This exchange, a highlight of the Modern Foreign Languages department, offers students a wonderful opportunity to immerse themselves in French culture, practise their language skills, and build international friendships.
On Friday 13th March, the school welcomed Lord Storey to the Chapel for a special visit as part of the House of Lords’ educational outreach programme, Learn with the Lords for an engaging and inspiring session aimed at deepening students’ understanding of Parliament, democracy, and public service.
