Encounters with Employers and the Workplace
A variety of approaches are adopted to enable students to learn from the workplace and employers. This is done in school through a range of enrichment activities, including visiting speakers, mentoring and enterprise schemes, voluntary work, and work experience, and should include learners’ own part-time employment where it exists.
Students engage with employers at the Careers Fair, through talks, interviews and assemblies, where they will learn about the world of work. All students receive a mock interview with an employer in years 11 and 12.
The vast majority of work experience is done during holidays and at weekends to minimise the disruption to education. However, the value of face-to-face work experience is undeniable and so we have introduced a week of work experience for year 12 students in the 25/26 academic year, as well as providing a range of workplace experiences for students in years 7-11. A work experience week will be introduced for year 10 students in the 26/27 academic year. Any student whose future plans and application necessitates further essential work experience, not covered through these channels, needs to request this through the absence request form.
