All former pupils of Liverpool Blue Coat School are known as ‘Old Blues’. Our alumni community spans generations, with over 3,500 registered members, and we continue to welcome new Old Blues each year as this valued network grows. 

Old Blues, alongside former members of staff, play a vital role in supporting the School’s mission and preserving its long-standing traditions. Their continued engagement reflects a shared commitment to the values and heritage of the School. 

In 1838, The Blue Coat Brotherly Society was established, comprising primarily former pupils. The Society had three principal aims: to foster friendship and fellowship among those educated at the Blue Coat Hospital; to support former pupils in times of need; and to contribute to the School’s funds through subscriptions and donations. Over many years, the Society carried out important work in supporting the lives and careers of former pupils. In 1857, a similar society was founded by the Ladies’ Committee for former female pupils, achieving equally positive outcomes. 

Today, the Old Blues network remains an integral part of the School community. Alumni contribute in a variety of meaningful ways, including supporting careers education through mock interviews, participating in annual careers events, delivering talks to current pupils and offering work experience. Many Old Blues support the School financially, whether through regular contributions to the Development Fund, donations towards capital projects, or through legacies in their wills. 

The enduring involvement of Old Blues continues to enrich the life of the School, ensuring that its legacy is both honoured and strengthened for future generations.
