On Wednesday 8 June 2026, pupils, staff, families and friends gathered for Blue Coat School Liverpool’s annual Summer Concert, an unforgettable evening celebrating the incredible breadth of musical talent across the school.
The concert featured an impressive and varied programme, showcasing everything from classical masterpieces and choral works to jazz standards, film music and contemporary favourites. The evening highlighted the dedication, creativity and passion of students from across all year groups, with each performance demonstrating the high standards of musicianship that continue to thrive at Blue Coat.
The evening opened with a series of performances from the Training Choir, whose repertoire included Colours of the Wind, Danny Boy and Caresse sur L’Ocean. The vocal performances continued with the Chamber Choir, who performed The Hills and The Turtle, followed by the Senior Choir, whose programme featured Britten’s Jubilate Deo, Fauré’s Cantique de Jean Racine, Make You Feel My Love and the spiritual Wade in the Water.
Instrumental music played a significant role throughout the concert, with solo organ performances and a range of outstanding chamber and solo items showcasing the exceptional musical ability of our students. The Junior Strings delighted the audience with performances of Polovtsian Dances and In the Hall of the Mountain King, while the Senior Strings gave expressive performances of O Waly Waly, Aria Cantilena and Oogway Ascends.
The school’s bands also brought energy and variety to the evening. The Concert and Jazz Band performed favourites including It Don’t Mean a Thing (If It Ain’t Got That Swing), Peg and Spain, demonstrating the versatility, skill and enthusiasm of the ensemble. The evening also featured performances from Big Band Bash, adding further excitement to the programme alongside contributions from the school’s developing young musicians.
The concert was a wonderful celebration of another successful year of music-making at Blue Coat, recognising the commitment, perseverance and enthusiasm of all the students involved. It was particularly inspiring to see musicians of different ages performing together, supporting one another and sharing their passion for music with the wider school community.
A sincere thank you goes to Mr Emery and Miss Horton for their dedication, guidance and hard work in making the event such a success. Their continued commitment to the school’s musical life provides invaluable opportunities for students to develop their talents and perform at the highest level.
Congratulations to all of the performers involved, including the Training Choir, Junior Strings, Senior Strings, Chamber Choir, Senior Choir, Concert and Jazz Band, and Big Band Bash, for delivering such an enjoyable and memorable evening of music. We are incredibly proud of every student who took part.
