Blue Coat Organ Scholarships Awarded

Congratulations to Maximus D (9To) and Noel X (8To) on being awarded a prestigious Blue Coat Organ Scholarship.

Following a highly competitive audition process, the judging panel was impressed not only by their performances on the piano and organ, but also by their enthusiasm, dedication and commitment to music. Both students demonstrated exceptional musical potential and a genuine passion for developing their skills further.

The scholarship provides four years of specialist organ tuition, beginning in Autumn 2026 and continuing through to Year 13. Scholars will receive approximately 30 lessons each year, learning on Blue Coat’s newly restored historic organ, the Chapel’s Walker organ and the school’s digital practice organ.

As part of the programme, students will have the unique opportunity to play some of the finest organs in the country, including those at Liverpool Cathedral and Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral. These experiences will allow scholars to develop their performance skills on a variety of world-class instruments while gaining valuable insight into the rich tradition of organ music.

Tuition will be delivered by Richard Lea under the supervision of Christopher McElroy, providing students with expert guidance and support throughout their scholarship.

The Organ Scholarship reflects Blue Coat’s long-standing musical tradition and commitment to nurturing young talent. Scholars are expected to engage fully with lessons, practice regularly, participate in progress reviews and act as ambassadors for music within the school community.

This award represents a significant achievement and an exciting opportunity for both students to develop advanced musical skills while helping to continue the revival of a proud Blue Coat tradition. We congratulate Maximus and Noel on their success and look forward to following their musical journeys in the years ahead.
