Two teams of six Year 9 Design and Technology Blue Coat students are taking part in this year’s Go4SET competition, a national competition that partners students with employers and universities to offer a ten week Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics project. Representing the School our students have been set the challenge to ‘think about new technologies that could change the way we spend, save and track money in the future’.
Our students are very lucky to be working with Land and Marine and ARUP and were invited to spend time with both companies on Thursday 4th June. At Land and Marine the students met the Chief Engineer Designer and had a tour of the company’s ‘Design Yard’. At ARUP our students watched a number of presentations showcasing some the designs that ARUP have been involved with from the Sydney Opera House to the Bird’s Nest in Beijing, and a little closer to home the Wheel of Liverpool. In addition, both teams spent time with their company mentors progressing their competition entries.
Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their experience with one student quoted as saying “I enjoyed the experience very much as it was both educational and interesting at the same time. Overall the day inspired me a lot about engineering and my friends and I found it to be very beneficial and informative.”
Organisers of Go4SET are seeking to increase the number of students pursuing careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths.
