It is thirty years since Blue Coat took the decision to introduce twenty female students into its Sixth Form in 1989, marking a new chapter in Blue Coat’s history.
To mark this special anniversary we threw open our Clock Tower doors and welcomed back our pioneering women from the Class of 1991. Retracing their steps through famous old haunts, including Shirley Hall, Chapel, and of course Peg Leg corridor, with tour guide and Blue Coat historian Mr Caulkin. The tour triggered countless memories, from a sea of intrigued male faces looking up at them on Shirley Hall balcony during their first day, to their sanctuary, a small girl’s only Common Room.
We thoroughly enjoyed catching up with our first cohort of female students and we look forward to sharing their Blue Coat memories with you in our upcoming Old Blues’ magazine.
If you are a member of our alumni network and would like to revisit Blue Coat and see first-hand our recently completed major redevelopments, please contact the Development Team to arrange a tour of the School. The team can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org.
