The Blue Coat School is a selective state school which for over 300 years has played a vital role in shaping the lives of young people in Liverpool.

We are proud to provide a free education which ensures our students aspire to, and realise, their academic potential whilst developing the skills and values they need for life’s journey. As a result, The Blue Coat has blossomed into a school that achieves the highest academic standards, and our students enjoy, value and celebrate their differences and individuality.

As an academy, our school is shaped by a skilled and committed Board of Trustees who bring with them a rich tapestry of expertise and experience. Due to the terms of office drawing to a close for a number of our existing trustees, we are looking to recruit individuals to join the board to help us to continue to shape the opportunities that we offer for generations to come.

While our board already possesses members with a broad range of skills, we are ideally looking for individuals with experience of having occupied leadership or senior positions, displaying drive and enthusiasm and a real sense of how these skills can be brought to the benefit of The Blue Coat School.

While we are respectful of our trustees’ professional and personal lives, all board members are expected to attend all board meetings and play an active role in supporting the school. This may include also sitting on an appropriate sub-committee, or being part of a working group. You may also be expected to maintain a strong engagement with school leadership on aspects of school provision on behalf of the board.

In return, not only will appropriate training be provided, you will also find the position to be incredibly rewarding. The work undertaken by the Board of Trustees has a direct and tangible impact on the school, and enhances the opportunities and life chances that we are able to offer our enthusiastic, talented and engaged students.

Our existing Trustees come from a range of backgrounds and bring with them varied experiences. Typically, however, they normally live within reasonable travelling distance, and have a genuine interest in the local region, a willingness to give time and desire to work with other people. We are also seeking to broaden the diversity of our Board of Trustees and encourage applications from under-represented groups.
