On Wednesday 12th October we welcomed back successful Chinese businessman and Old Blue Haichao Joseph Lee from the Class of 1993.

Haichao, who currently resides in Shanghai, was back in Liverpool with China’s second largest television network operator, Shanghai Media Group, who are currently filming Haichao as part of a documentary highlighting his English education. Haichao attended The Blue Coat School from 1987 to 1993 and continues to hold the School in high regard, with fond memories of former teachers Mr Nick Cowan and Mr Keith Caulkin.

Returning to China in 1999 with a degree in Computer Science from the University of Manchester, Haichao established a number of highly successful companies within the software and communications sector, with one company listed on the NASDAQ stock exchange. His love of cars led to him found Car King Ltd, the largest used car company in China, which he also runs as CEO.

During his visit to the School Haichao and his wife Cathy enjoyed sampling Blue Coat life, attending a Year 10 Mandarin Class, a Year 11 English Class and a lunchtime Basketball practice session. Haichao also had a chance to visit some of the original parts of the School including the Fenwick Harrison Memorial Chapel and Shirley Hall.
