Blue Coat students were delighted to welcome Liverpool and England midfielder Adam Lallana on Wednesday 18th March, as he took time out of his busy training schedule to support the PlayStation Schools’ Cup.
Seeking to nurture footballing talent, the PlayStation’s Schools’ Cup is an exciting nationwide grassroots partnership between PlayStation and the English Schools’ Football Association. With over 2,000 schools up and down the country involved in the program, The Blue Coat School was honoured to host one of the rounds of the competition.
The Liverpool and England star enjoyed a short warm up session with the School’s under 15 football team, and provided them with some last minute advice before their match against Helsby High School. Defeating their opponents with a hard fought 1-0 victory the team were thrilled to be awarded a special PlayStations Schools’ Cup trophy.
Throughout the day over 300 Blue Coat students enjoyed coaching sessions from two experienced English Schools’ Football Association coaches, and both provided fantastic advice and support to students wishing to perfect and advance their football skills.
Away from the football pitch Lallana took time to meet with students around the School, taking part in a question and answer session attended by over sixty students and staff. One question sought Lallana’s prediction for the top four teams in this year’s Premier League which included Manchester City, Chelsea, Arsenal and his own team Liverpool.
The School sports hall was transformed into a PlayStation gaming hub, with high achieving students rewarded with the opportunity to play on some of the latest games. The Captain of the First XI was overjoyed to put Lallana’s virtual football skills to the test as the pair played head to head.
We would like to thank all staff for their help and support during this highly successful and popular event.
