“Over the course of four nights parents, students and teachers flocked to the school’s Shirley Hall for this year’s musical spectacular, Guys and Dolls!
Each performance was a spectacular success and all involved are worthy of much praise! From start to finish the acting, dancing, music, costumes, make-up, lighting, sound and special effects were of such a high calibre, a kin to a professional performance by a theatre company!
All of the main characters had a relaxed confidence about their roles which emphasised their actions and displayed their prolific talent in the delivery of the story. The underlying humour in the story came over well and the choreography was incredibly creative, full of dissonances and sparkle, which reminded me of Stravinsky’s music, but in dance. Befitting costumes coupled with artistic stage sets gave the show the feeling of being there with the actors, whether in New York, Cuba or the mission hall. All of this was fused seamlessly with the splendid playing of the orchestra under its competent conductor, Year 13 student Jessie Liu.
Everybody involved with the production of the show are to be heartily congratulated on a magnificent performance that entertained so well the many audience members who enjoyed it over the four nights. Certainly it was one of the best musicals that Blue Coat has staged! Amazing!
Finally our thanks go to Morecrofts Solicitors for kindly sponsoring this year’s production.”
