With the end of a busy academic year rapidly approaching, students from Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 were invited to one of three Awards Afternoons. Joined by their families and teachers, these special events provided a perfect opportunity to reflect on and celebrate the individual and collective successes achieved over the course of the 2018/19 academic year.
This year’s awards’ ceremonies were held in the beautiful and atmospheric surroundings of the School Chapel. The School intends to incorporate this important and historic part of the School into the daily life of the School, starting with its transformation into the General Assembly for our Model United Nations conference. The overall intention being to make greater use of this valuable space for the benefit of all of our students.
From participating in a variety of local, regional and national competitions to being selected for national sports teams, our students have been extremely busy inside and outside of the classroom. Headteacher Mr Pennington praised students from Years 7 to 10 for their outstanding achievements and encouraged them to build on their success.
Our Awards Afternoons also provide us with a great opportunity to highlight our Old Blues community and to introduce students to our successful alumni. This year we were delighted to welcome back Director at Tilney Group Sam Myers from the Class of 2000, Transformation Supply Chain Director at Unilever Jack Hayes from the Class of 1991, and jetting in from Shanghai IGCSE Coordinator at Yew Chung International School, Ian Lee also from the Class of 1991.
All three shared their pride in having attended The Blue Coat School and reflected on the numerous opportunities they were provided with. As well as encouraging students to maintain their high standards and commitment to their studies, they each stressed the importance of taking advantage of every opportunity, from entering competitions to experiencing new cultures.
Our thanks go to Investec Wealth and Investment for their ongoing support of The Blue Coat School, through helping with our Careers, Information, Advice and Guidance programme, supporting our fundraising activities, as well as contributing significantly to our Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 Awards Afternoons.
