Head of PE Mr Phelan reflects on what has been an exciting and busy period of extra-curricular and enrichment opportunities for our students across all three Key Stages.
Liverpool School Sports Partnership
“Our Football, Netball, Hockey and Basketball teams continue to participate and excel in local and county competitions. Thanks to a new partnership with Liverpool School Sports Partnership (LSSP) our students have been able to take advantage of a wide range of new opportunities which overall have been superb in developing the health and wellbeing of our students in physical activity, school sport, and Physical Education as we recover and come out of the pandemic.
“Over the course of this term, LSSP has provided our students with the opportunity to represent the School in a wide variety of activities, in which we have mostly achieved great success. Our students won the Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 Table Tennis competitions and are now Liverpool champions for age both groups. Our Year 10 boys were crowned Liverpool Futsal Champions and made it through to the Semi-Finals at the Merseyside competition. Our Year 9 boys also qualified for the Merseyside competition and made it to the Semi-Finals.
“During the LSSP Indoor Athletics Championships, our Year 7 and Year 8 boys finished in the top 4, qualifying for the Merseyside competition. They both then pushed on and achieved silver medals at the Merseyside School Games, which is a fantastic achievement. Our Year 10 girls participated in a Key Stage 4 Futsal tournament.
“We recently entered the U15 England Handball competition, which we entered through the LSSP, and our boy’s team achieved a Bronze medal within the North West regional competitions, which is a great success considering this is the first time the School has competed in a Handball competition.
“Our Under 16 Football team has reached the Merseyside cup final beating Cardinal Heenan 2-1 away at the end of March. Girls’ Football continues to thrive and our Year 7 team came second in a recent LSFA tournament.
“Our Key Stage 3 girls and Key Stage 4 girls and boys are Liverpool Champions in Badminton.
“Students have participated in the local Liverpool Cross country league and over 30 students took part in a recent event at Wavertree with special mentions to Lillian and Frankie in Year 7.
“In Hockey, Years 7 and 8 represented Blue Coat at the Merseyside Hockey tournament.
“Year 7 came 2nd in the City Championship playing St Edwards in the final. Year 8 came 2nd playing Belvedere in their final. Year 9 won with an 8-0 victory in the final over St Hildas. Year 10 made it to the semis before getting beaten on golden goal by St Edwards. We have Year 11 and seniors to come in April.
“All Netball league fixtures are complete, with all teams undefeated. We are currently waiting for the overall league results.
Our Year 7 and 8 teams took part in the School Games on March 31 after getting through to the Merseyside round before Christmas.
“Year 9 and 10 netball teams qualified in 2nd place at the Merseyside country qualifiers, playing some outstanding netball and represented Liverpool in the Merseyside county finals in March.
“A mixed team of Years 7 and 8 girls represented Blue Coat in the LSSP football competition.
“KS4 girls football entered a futsal tournament held at Belvedere.”
