GIRLS

HOCKEY

The Hockey season started very strongly with both the U14’s and U16’s both progressing to the region finals, which was held at Timperley Hockey Club. The U14’s played extremely well against tough opposition – they pulled together well and continued to develop through each game. The U16’s held their nerve and beat strong teams but were beaten on points so unfortunately did not progress any further.

The Liverpool School Girl Hockey leagues began at the end of September. We enter all the age groups entering 2 teams in the U12’s and U13’s. The results are as follows.

We have had a brilliant season of Girls Hockey and hope to improve on these encouraging performances next year.

NETBALL

Netball has gone from strength to strength this year with the introduction of an ‘Open’ practice night on a Monday with the average number of 60 girls attending, resulting in the introduction of a Senior Team. We entered two different competitions this year the Girls Liverpool Netball League and the Liverpool City Netball Championships (a one off knock out tournament).

We are delighted to say that this is the very first year since girls joined the school that The Blue Coat School is the overall winner of the Premier netball schools league. Medals were given to all involved and we hope to emulate this performance again next year.

ATHLETICS

The Blue Coat School girls have always been eager to compete in all Athletic competitions, we have a small cohort of powerful strong athletic sports women. To show their ability we entered the English School Athletics Championships Inter Girls section (year 9/10) for the first time since the school turned co-ed. The girls exceeded all expectations and finished a very respectable 4th. We will be entering this competition again next year with the hope of entering both the Inter and Junior sections.

The Liverpool School City Championship is a city wide competition with all local schools attending. As with the English schools competition our girls surpassed our expectations. The results are as follows.

BOYS

FOOTBALL

The under 14’s were beaten finalists in the Liverpool School’s Football Association Cup. They played exceptionally well in the final, eventually losing 3-1 to Saint Francis Xavier College.

The under 15’s were beaten semi-finalists in the Merseyside School’s Football Association Cup. This tournament has the best football schools from Liverpool, Knowsley, St Helens, Wirral & Sefton in it. To reach the semi-final stage is a massive achievement for our under 15’s squad.

BASKETBALL

The under 12’s were crowned as Liverpool School’s Basketball Association champions under the leadership of Mr Rees. A fantastic result for the squad, considering that many of the boys had never played basketball before their arrival at Blue Coat in September 2013. They beat a very strong Arch-Bishop Beck side in the final.

The under 13’s were beaten finalists by the smallest of margins in the Liverpool School’s Basketball Association Cup. They also progressed well in the National Schools Cup reaching the last 16. Mr Phelan has high hopes for this squad in next year’s competitions.

The under 14’s were crowned as Liverpool School’s Basketball Association champions after a thrilling 74-71 point victory over St. Margaret’s Academy.

The under 18’s were runners-up in the Liverpool School’s Basketball Association Cup Final. They played strongly throughout the competition, but went down to a very good Childwall Academy side in the final.

RUGBY UNION

The students from years 11,12 & 13 combined to produce a Senior Rugby XV that played 2 friendly matches this year, both against St. Margaret’s Academy, Aigburth. The first match was the first game of rugby that many of our students had ever played. We were outstanding in losing 29-21. The second match had to be abandoned as a result of a serious arm injury to one of the SMA students, however Blue Coat had a commanding 19-0 lead at the time.

MIXED

SWIMMING

Blue Coat school made a return to competitive swimming under the guidance of Mr Dowling this academic year. The first school swimming galas for several years took place against St. Edward’s College and MTS Crosby. Although we were beaten in both, it was great to be back in the pool. There is lots of talented swimmers in the school, and hopefully we can get a couple more fixtures next academic year.

BADMINTON

Blue Coat entered 4 teams in the Liverpool Schools Badminton Championships. Out of the 4 teams that entered, three of them progressed to the North-West regional Championships in St Helens. These were the KS 3 and KS 4 boys and the KS 4 girls. The standard at the regional championships was very high, and The Blue Coat School teams performed admirably.
