Blue Coat’s new Water Polo team put in a fine performance in its first competition competing against other Liverpool schools – in spite of being the only one with no access to a swimming pool.
A total of 16 students from Year 8 took part in the Liverpool Schools Water Polo Mixed Year 8 competition, split into two equal teams of boys and girls students.
The Blue Coat A team (not based on ability) won their pool, winning three and drawing one game. Our B team won two, drew one and lost one. Each team had five players in the water at any time with three subs.
Our A team played St Edwards A team and drew 3-3. We then lost the penalty shoot out 3-1. St Edwards then went on to win the overall competition. In our 3/4th place game we played all our players and finished the tournament 4th. The B team finished 6th overall.
Mr Phelan, of the PE Department, who led the team, said: “It was a fantastic achievement and the opportunity to participate was our main goal. It was the first year we entered and all the other schools who entered have access to swimming pools at their schools. Having not played water polo the students were fantastic. We were the only school that had subs, all the others just had teams of five.”
The Year 7 football teams have made a very strong start; winning all three of their opening games across the ESFA, Merseyside and Liverpool Cup’s.
U12 – U16 are all through to the next rounds of the Merseyside and Liverpool cup competitions and U18’s are still in the ESFA National cup and Everton Shield.
Our teams have got off to a great start with Year 10 & Year 11 netball winning their tournaments in October and our Year 8 & Year 9 Netball are currently undefeated. Year 7 ‘A’ are also doing well, only losing one match so far. All of our hockey teams have had a fantastic season winning the majority of their games in the local league.
Congratulations to all of students for these great achievements.
