Blue Coat School welcomed pupils from nine schools when it hosted the Liverpool School Sports Partnership’s Quicksticks Year 5/6 Competition, which took place for the first time in three years due to the covid pandemic.
Eight Blue Coat students from Years 9 and 10 refereed, kept scores and monitored the two leagues during the two-hour Quicksticks event.
There was a total of 35 teams competing in the Year 5/6 Competition, with nine playing at the Blue Coat qualifying round. These primary school teams were Barlows, Belvedere (two teams), Bishop Martin, Rudston (two teams), Springwood, St Mary’s Anfield and Windsor.
Organiser Jason Evans, LSSP Competition and Events Manager, said: “This is the first time in three years we’ve been back in action with this annual event following the pandemic.
“Today is a progressive qualifier, which will lead to a city final at Liverpool University’s Wyncote Sports Ground on Thursday, with 12 teams competing. The four best city finalists will then go onto the regional finals.
“It’s wonderful getting the young players out at last to compete as some of them will go forward to compete in regional finals and possibly the chance of playing in national games later on.”
Mr Carney, Blue Coat PE teacher, said: “It’s a fantastic opportunity for our students who play hockey to be able to host this important event involving so many schools.”
