Year 7
The Blue Coat School is a mixed selective school for students aged 11 – 18, which converted to Academy status on 1st March 2012. We are over 300 years old, so we are rich in tradition, yet we are forward-looking in ideas and technology. Whilst we have a reputation for Academic results, there are many events and activities which make The Liverpool Blue Coat School experience very exciting and rewarding.
September 2026 Admissions
Entrance Test Information for Year 7 Entry – The Blue Coat School Liverpool
At The Blue Coat School Liverpool, we select students for Year 7 through an Entrance Test process. The application window for September 2026 admissions has now closed.
Appeals Information
Appeals are administered by Wirral School Appeals.
Parents who wish to lodge an appeal should email admissions@bluecoatschool.org.uk to request an appeal form. Appeal forms will be available from 2nd March 2026, once parents have received their local authority allocation letter.
Completed appeal forms must be submitted no later than 13th April 2026.
Appeal hearings will take place on 18th May 2026.
September 2027 Admissions
Open Day:
Our Open Day for Year 7 Admissions Intake for 2027 will take place Thursday 26th March 2026. Tickets were available to book here from 8 am on 21/02/2026. This event has now sold out.
Application Timeline:
Applications for Year 7 entry in September 2027 will be submitted via an online application form available on our website.
- Application Window: Thursday 26th March 2026 – Friday 24th April 2026 (4 weeks)
Test Booking:
During the application period, parents are required to book a Phase 1 test slot at the time of submission. Only one booking per child is permitted. Duplicate bookings will be removed.
Test Structure:
The Entrance Test is conducted in two phases, assessing reading, mathematics and reasoning skills. Both tests will be conducted online at The Liverpool Blue Coat School using a PC, keyboard and mouse.
Phase 1:
All applicants will take part in the Phase 1 test.
Phase 1 testing will take place on Thursday 2nd July, Friday 3rd July and Saturday 4th July 2026. Parents will be able to book a test slot at the time of application.
Approximately 600 applicants will progress to Phase 2 based on their performance in Phase 1.
Phase 2:
Phase 2 testing will take place on Saturday 19th September 2026, for applicants who qualify for Phase 2.
