On Wednesday 16th July The Blue Coat School welcomed back Old Blue Stuart Ford to speak to our Year 9,10 and 12 students in assembly.
Stuart, from the Class of 1988, is the Founder and CEO of IM Global, one of Hollywood’s leading independent film financing, production and international sales companies. Stuart studied Law at Oxford University after leaving the Blue Coat School followed by four years of practice as an entertainment industry lawyer. Stuart then moved to New York and became an executive at Miramax Films eventually becoming the studio’s head of worldwide distribution. In 2006 Stuart founded IM Global and is now based in Los Angeles.
Stuart was in Liverpool as the curator of ‘Dream Factory’, one of the highlights of the International Festival of Business which took place on the 14th and 15th July aiming to inspire the creative and film professionals of the future.
Speaking to our students in assembly, Stuart attributed his success to three key things: being from Liverpool, a city which encourages and harnesses creativity; going to The Blue Coat School where he learned how to maximise opportunities; and ‘just showing up’, quoting Woody Allen’s famous quote “80% of success is just showing up”. Stuart inspired the students, saying that if you believe in yourself completely then others will too.
We were delighted that Stuart donated ‘Cinema: The Whole Story’ and ‘The British Cinema Book’ to the School library which will be used by students for many years to come.
