On Monday 24th March Old Blue Keith Miller came to speak to our students and parents about his latest book – ‘Steven Gerrard, Michael Owen and… Me’.
Born and bred in Liverpool, Keith has been a permanent resident of Barbados since 1978. Keith was educated at the Blue Coat School and left in 1973 to continue his education at the Liverpool Polytechnic (now Liverpool John Moores University); the Sorbonne, Paris, France; and the University of Valencia, Spain, Keith has a BA in Languages and Modern European Studies.
Keith and his wife Sally are the joint owners and managing directors of Miller Publishing Company, and over the years have been jointly awarded the Ernst & Young Entrepreneurs of the Year for Tourism in Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean; the Minister of Tourism’s Special Award for Contribution to the Development of Tourism in Barbados; and, most recently, the Barbados Hotel & Tourism Association’s Lifetime Achievement Award.
Keith’s spoke to students and parents about his new book, giving a fascinating insight into the football Academy system as well as being a published author. The book, entitled ‘Steven Gerrard, Michael Owen and…. Me’ is a football autobiography with an exciting and refreshing difference. It tells the real life story of Mike Yates, sharing what it is like to be one of the many thousands of young players who pass through the football Academy system, get very close to the first team and believe that they are about to make it, only to suddenly find themselves rejected.
We were also pleased that fellow Old Blue Dave McDonough joined Keith in answering questions from the audience – Dave is a football analyst, having worked alongside Rafa Benitez at both Liverpool Football Club and Inter Milan.
“We were delighted that Keith returned to the Blue Coat to talk to our students and parents. We are always pleased to see our former students and hear what they’re up to, and Keith is a fantastic example and a source of inspiration for our current students.”
