Following on from the success of our autumn term series of Sixth Form career talks, our spring 2016 series got underway on Friday 22nd January, with an inspirational talk delivered by Old Blue and dentist Dr Zohaib Khan from the Class of 2007. Recently awarded ‘Dentist of the Year 2015’ by the Association of Pakistani Physicians and Surgeons of the UK, Zohaib is one of the youngest dentists to receive this award, making him a fantastic role model for our aspiring dentists.

Currently working at a north Liverpool dental practice Zohaib provided our students with a wide range of valuable advice and information, from researching and comparing the structure of dentistry degree programmes, to the qualities university admission boards look for in successful candidates. When highlighting the stresses associated with studying dentistry, including the challenging and demanding nature of ongoing assessment, Zohaib reminded students of the importance of a social life and the benefits that can be had by joining university societies.

Once qualified the next generation of Blue Coat dentists can look forward to enhancing and developing their careers by following one of a number of pathways available to newly qualified dentists, from primary care dentistry to providing care to members of the armed forces. As well as promoting career benefits such as international work, long term job security and the rewarding nature of the profession, Zohaib was unafraid to detail the pressures related to the profession including very high stress levels.

Zohaib’s excellent presentation was followed by a question and answer session with students wanting to know how to improve hand dexterity and how to gain crucial work experience.

We are extremely grateful to Zohaib for taking the time to return to Blue Coat to share some fantastic well thought out careers advice and for quashing the longstanding belief that dentistry is just about teeth and gums. We wish Zohaib all the best as he continues to carve out what will surely be a very successful career.

If you would like to take part in our series of Sixth Form careers talks please do not hesitate to contact the Development Team at or on 0151 733 1407.
