At the start of the new term Dr. Frank Mair, of the University of Manchester’s Chemistry Department, visited the School to deliver his spectacular “Flash-Bang” presentation, transforming Shirley Hall into a scientific laboratory.

Dr Mair’s presentation involved a series of thrilling and fascinating chemistry demonstrations designed to promote interest in science in general and chemistry in particular. But this event was about far more than entertainment. It provided our students with a great insight into why chemistry experiments proceed the way that they do and the predictions that can be made by scientists.

A highly enjoyable experience was had by all Year 8 and 9 students and we would like to thank Dr. Mair for making the trip to Liverpool to give his excellent presentation.
