The Blue Coat School was delighted to hear that Old Blue Zia Chaudhry, from the Class of 1987 was awarded an MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours for his services to inter-faith relations. Zia, author of ‘Just Your Average Muslim’, has been involved with inter-faith work for over 15 years and his work gained international recognition this year when Zia was invited to the 2015 Dubai Literary Festival. Alongside his venture into the literary world Zia continues to practice law as a criminal barrister.
“I am of course delighted and humbled to have been awarded an MBE for services to interfaith relations in Merseyside. Like with so many awards it reflects well on people other than just the recipient, so, in my case the Blue Coat can claim a lot of credit too! It was also particularly satisfying to receive it because as far as I was concerned I had done nothing spectacular to deserve it. So there is a nice lesson for my children and others reminding them that if you just keep on working away at something good, it can still be recognised and rewarded even if it doesn’t seem particularly newsworthy at the time.”
Congratulations go to Zia for his wonderful achievement.
