This term, 3 of our students entered the English Chess Federation Northern Junior Championships. Congratulations to all 3 students for putting themselves forward for such a great tournament, and well done in particular to Year 10 student Ben for coming 2nd in his age range.

The introduction of a “Chess” section to the school library has gone down very well and a number of students have been reading our new books with great enthusiasm. These, along with our new analysis software, have given students confidence in their judgement and ability. This has been evidenced by the number of ‘student led’ lessons and discussions, with pawn end games and the Evans Gambit being two particular highlights. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Development Fund supporters and the Parents’ Association who have made significant contributions to the Club.

We only have one half term left to go of our school Premier League competition. We currently have a very tight race between 4 students all battling it out for a podium place, as well as several other strong participants in the places below. There is still all to play for!
