On November 28th former student and professional actor James Lacey will be returning to the school to bring you an evening of light-hearted musical theatre entertainment, in his cabaret production of “Confessions of an Old Blue”. This original cabaret performance is packed with amusing stories of James’ time at the Blue Coat and from his time on tour as a professional performer, as well as an array of songs, live music from the house band, a raffle, a bar and some special guest performances.
Funds raised from the event will go towards financing the upcoming school production of “The Wedding Singer” to be performed in February 2015. Despite his busy schedule, which includes performing in the hit show “Shrek the Musical”, James will once again be taking on the role of director, following on from his directorial success last year with the production “Into the Woods”. The standards for 2015 have been set high with “Into the Woods” recently being shortlisted for this years Educate Award for ‘Outstanding Arts in Secondary Schools’. This high standard of school drama is set to be repeated in February’s performance.
James’ career continues to go from strength to strength having toured the UK in the “High School Musical 2”, “The Sound of Music” with Connie Fisher and Jason Donovan, and the European Premier of Dolly Parton’s “9 to 5 the Musical” with Bonnie Langford and Natalie Casey. Last year James filmed Disney’s new Live Action movie of “Cinderella”, directed by Kenneth Branagh, due for realise in cinemas next year.
For James “no matter how many times I try to escape, I always find myself coming back to Blue Coat to do another show. I love working with the students and creating something completely different to the year before. To make this show bigger and better than ever (we already have 70 students in the cast alone!) I decided to stage an evening to try out my new cabaret, so we can have a few songs and some laughs and raise a bit of money in the process. So leave the kids at home and come along for an ‘out of hours’ evening of entertainment!”
