On Wednesday 1st July, one of the hottest days of the year, four Year 10 students travelled to Reading University to compete in the WinAtSchool National Final.
This year’s event, attended by the top twelve schools in the country, was opened by Neil Sheldon from the Royal Statistical Society, who stressed the importance of mathematics and statistics for young professionals. Contestants also had the opportunity to meet with Dr Victoria Neale from Oxford University. Dr Neale gave an insightful talk on Prime Numbers, highlighting the exciting exploration of mathematical problems.
The competition consisted of three rounds covering topics including statistics, algebra and probability.
Our mathematicians Ella Hornby, Oliver Lambert-Brown, Yasmin Hasan and Yan Shi acquitted themselves admirably throughout the day and finished the competition in the top ten.
Congratulations to all students.
