Blue Coat Chess Club recently played host to students from King David High School, The Academy of St Nicholas, St Margaret’s Academy and SFX, for our first blitz tournament of 2020. Not for the faint-hearted, competitors had just 5 minutes to play their entire game! Several matches drew in a number of spectators as games came down to the crucial final seconds.
In all 125 games were played during the tournament, with some students maintaining an impressive unbeaten streak.
Among those supporting the event was Maths teacher and Chess Club coordinator at The Academy of St Nicholas, Old Blue Michael Sweeney from the Class of 2008. We hope he enjoyed catching up with his former Maths teacher Mr Shipgood, which of course involved a blitz game or two.
If you love Chess and would like to share your skills with our Chess Club members, or challenge them to a game or two, please contact Blue Coat Chess Club coordinator and Old Blue Jenny Long from the Class of 2009 at firstname.lastname@example.org
Chess Club thoroughly enjoyed meeting the other schools and would like to extend their thanks to Mr Jones of King David, Mrs Hargreaves of St Margaret’s and Mr Sweeney of St Nicholas Academy for helping to arrange this fantastic event.
