Year 9 Options
Students choose their GCSE options during Year 9. These courses begin at the start of Year 10 and lead to GCSE examinations taken at the end of Year 11.
Our curriculum is designed to give all students a broad, balanced education while also allowing them to develop their individual interests and strengths.
Core GCSE Subjects
All students study the following GCSE subjects:
- English Language
- English Literature
- Mathematics
- Biology
- Chemistry
- Physics
These subjects form the foundation of every student’s GCSE programme and are studied by all.
Option Subjects
In addition to the core subjects, students choose:
One Foreign Language
French, Latin, or Spanish
One Humanity
Geography, History, or Religious Studies
Two Further Option Subjects
These can be chosen from the range of subjects offered by the school, allowing students to personalise their curriculum and explore areas of interest or future career aspirations.
Non-Examined Courses
Alongside their GCSE subjects, all students also study the following non-examined courses:
- Religious Studies
- Physical Education
- Personal Development
These courses play an important role in supporting students’ personal growth, wellbeing and understanding of the wider world.
Making the Right Choices
Students are encouraged to choose subjects they enjoy, are good at, and may wish to continue studying in the future. Support and guidance are provided throughout the options process, including assemblies, subject information, and discussions with teachers and tutors.
Further details about individual subjects and the options process will be shared during the Year 9 options period.
