Personal Development

We understand that personal development must be adaptable to suit the needs of individual students as they arise. We are also committed to preparing our students for the opportunities, experiences and responsibilities of life in the modern world.

Our students have daily opportunities for support built into their timetables.

Students meet with their form tutor every morning, building on a range of skills including organisational skills, communication skills and critical thinking. The sixth form team is on hand to provide guidance in terms of planning for next steps and overcoming obstacles to learning, as well as offering support for any pastoral issues that may arise.

All students have Personal Development lessons on their timetable, delivered by a specialist team. In year 12 this is one lesson a fortnight, rising to two lessons a fortnight in year 13. A range of topics are covered in an age-appropriate manner, meeting all statutory guidance whilst considering the unique needs of our students. Full information on our personal development curriculum can be found on the curriculum pages of the school website.

Preparing for post-18 options

Full guidance on preparing for post-18 options can be found below. Students have regular Student Development talks from a range of higher education and apprenticeship providers and employers. Parents are invited in to school for information evenings in both year 12 and 13, ensuring that students are fully supported to select and access their best next step.
