Music
Music enjoys an outstanding reputation at The Blue Coat School, where our aim is to foster a positive, creative environment in which every student can thrive as a musician and make sustained progress. At all Key Stages, lessons encompass the three core musical activities—performing, listening, and composing—delivered in an engaging and stimulating way. Students are encouraged to develop their musical understanding, express themselves creatively, and communicate ideas effectively both in performance and through written work.
The curriculum is complemented by a wide range of extracurricular opportunities, enabling students to extend their learning beyond the classroom. From choirs and bands to orchestras and the annual school musical, students can participate in vibrant musical communities that build confidence, teamwork, and a lifelong love of music. Through these experiences, students develop technical skill, creative thinking, and a strong sense of musical identity, preparing them to continue engaging with music in a variety of contexts, both academically and personally.
Please find below the Curriculum Mapping for each Key Stage. Please note that Curriculum Maps are currently under review.
