History
The History curriculum at The Blue Coat School is designed to provide students with a deep and informed understanding of the society in which they live, as well as the people, events, and ideas that have shaped it over time. Through the study of a wide range of historical periods and themes, students gain insight into the complexity of the past and its lasting influence on the present.
Students are encouraged to investigate historical debates and unanswered questions, analysing evidence from a variety of sources to explore differing interpretations of the past. Key concepts such as power, democracy, rights, and change are examined in context, allowing students to understand how these ideas have evolved and why they continue to matter today. As a result, students develop the ability to construct well-structured, persuasive arguments supported by evidence.
The taught curriculum is enriched through a range of engaging enrichment opportunities led by History Prefects, which further deepen students’ interest and enthusiasm for the subject. By the time they leave The Blue Coat School, students are confident, critical thinkers who can communicate complex ideas clearly and thoughtfully, equipped with skills that are valuable far beyond the study of History.
