The Blue Coat School is a mixed selective school for students aged 11 – 18, which converted to Academy status on 1^st March 2012. We are over 300 years old, so we are rich in tradition, yet we are forward-looking in ideas and technology. Whilst we have a reputation for Academic results, there are many events and activities which make The Blue Coat School experience very exciting and rewarding.

September 2026 Admissions

Entrance Test Information for Year 7 Entry – The Blue Coat School Liverpool

At The Blue Coat School Liverpool, we select students for Year 7 through an Entrance Test process.

The application window for September 2026 admissions has now closed.

Application Timeline for 2025:

• Applications Open: Thursday 24 April 2025
• Applications Closed: Monday 2 June 2025

Parents of children currently in Year 5 were invited to apply for their child to sit the Entrance Test. The test is scheduled to take place in June and July 2025, with outcomes provided ahead of the Local Authority school application deadline.

Test Booking:

During the application period, parents were required to book a Phase 1 test slot at the time of submission. Only one booking per child was permitted. Duplicate bookings were removed.

Test Structure:

The Entrance Test is conducted in two phases, assessing reading, mathematics, and reasoning skills. Both tests will be conducted online at The Blue Coat School Liverpool using a PC, keyboard and mouse.

Phase 1:

All applicants will take the Phase 1 test, which assesses the following skills:

• Reading
• Spelling
• General Mathematics
• Mental Arithmetic
• Developed Ability

Approximately 400 applicants will progress to Phase 2 based on their performance in Phase 1.

Phase 2:

Applicants who qualify for Phase 2 will be notified during the week commencing 25th August 2025. Phase 2 will assess the following skills:

• Verbal Ability
• Numerical Ability
• Non-verbal Ability

Phase 2 Test Date: Saturday 20th September 2025.

Open Day: 

Our Open Day on Friday 27th June 2025  is now fully booked. Tickets were available to book via Eventbrite from Tuesday 3rd June 2025.
