Our Year 7 football team have had enjoyed a remarkable first season representing The Blue Coat School.

Having performed strongly in the Merseyside Cup our talented players progressed through to the final of the Year 7 Liverpool Cup, the first Blue Coat team to do so in over 20 years. Defeating teams including Alsop, St Margret’s and SFX 2-1 in a closely fought semi-final match, which saw the team fight back from being 1-0 down, to winning the match with a last minute penalty.

During the final, which took place at Walton Hall Park Soccer Centre, the team led 1-0 against Cardinal Heenan but an equaliser within minutes saw the score remain 1-1 with just 10 minutes to go. As the final whistle was blown the score stood Cardinal Heenan 3 Blue Coat 1.

Reflecting on the team’s performance this season Head of P.E. MrPhelan remarked, “Reaching the Liverpool cup final has been a fantastic achievement and the boys deserve all the praise and plaudits for a successful season. Whilst Blue Coat has a recent history of successes in Football at a National, county and local level, it has been over 20 years since we reached a Year 7 final. The whole squad should be credited with the performances and standards set. As a school we are really pleased with the progress they have made. The boys have worked hard both individually and collectively in training and then transferred this into matches. A big thank you also goes to the parents who have supported the boys throughout the season.”
