As the 2017/18 academic year draws to a close Headteacher Mr Pennington welcomed students in Year 7 and Year 8, their families and staff to this year’s Key Stage 3 Awards’ afternoon. This special event provided an opportunity for everyone involved to take time out from a busy summer term to reflect on and acknowledge the individual and collective achievements of our students. From participating in a variety of national competitions to being selected for regional sports teams, our students have been extremely busy inside and outside of the classroom.

Taking to Shirley Hall stage Mr Pennington congratulated students on their determination and commitment to their studies as well as their enthusiasm to get involved in all aspects of Blue Coat School life.

As part of the celebrations we were delighted to welcome back Old Blue and University of Oxford student Jonathan Chan, from the Class of 2016, as our guest speaker. Reflecting on his time at the School, scattered with international school trips and choir rehearsals, Jonathan provided our students with thoughtful advice and encouraged them to take advantage of every opportunity that presents itself on their long journey of learning.

We would like to thank Jonathan for delivering this year’s guest speech and we wish him the very best of luck as he embarks on his year abroad at Montreal’s McGill University!
