Our students’ hard work over the last three years was rewarded when they arrived in Shirley Hall to collect their GCSE results, after facing a more challenging set of exams than in previous years.

Their well-deserved results will enable them to move onto the next stage of their education as Sixth Form students at Blue Coat.

This was the first full year of the new tougher grading system, extended from the trial three subjects last year to 20 subjects for 2018, with a 9 – 1 grading scale replacing the old A* – G.

Of all grades awarded for subjects under the new system:

  • 56 % of all grades were 9-8
  • 77 % of all grades were 9-7
  • Nearly 3 in 5 of all grades were a 9

Three subjects which are still measured on the old grading system are:

  • 84 % of all subject grades were A*-A
  • 95 % of all subject grades were A*-B

Headteacher Mr Pennington said: “We are delighted with our students’ achievements in this year’s GCSEs. Their focus, determination and attitude over the last three years has brought them the great success they deserve in these new more demanding courses. The sheer number of top grades is remarkable and only possible because our talented students and staff work so well together to achieve great things.”

We wish all of our students the very best of luck for the future as they embark on their A Level courses and look forward to welcoming them back in September.
