As the 2017 spring term draws to a close, our sports teams can look back on yet another successful term.

• Netball is one of the most popular extra-curricular sports amongst female students and our Year 7, 8, 9 and 10 netball teams were crowned Liverpool City Netball Champions, just days after returning from their netball tour at the end of March.

• Our Year 7 football team progressed through to the final eight of the English Schools Football Association’s PlayStation Cup, defeating the North Liverpool Academy, Upton School Chester, North Chadderton Oldham and St Bede’s Blackburn, along the way. Reflecting on their success Team Manager Graham Smith said, “the whole squad should be credited with the performances and standards set. As a School we are really pleased with the progress they have made. Everybody has worked hard both individually and collectively in training and then transferred this into matches. What is most pleasing is that they always look to play football the right way.”

• Moving away from the Lance Lane playing fields, our Under 16 Basketball team made it through to the semi-finals of the Basketball England under 16 Schools Premiership, for the third year in a row. Despite a nail biting game the team, led by Head of P.E. Mr Phelan, were defeated by London based St Bonaventure’s. Praising his players Mr Phelan stated,“this is an outstanding achievement from a team that have been Liverpool champions and in the last four nationally for the past two seasons. The boys must be congratulated for all the hard work and effort that they have put into training and playing.”

• At the start of March our Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 swim teams took part in a closely fought swimming gala at Calderstones School. What was once an annual feature in The Blue Coat School sports calendar, swimming looks set to make a comeback.
