Once again the Blue Coat Maths department is delighted with the success of our senior mathematicians, who participated in the UK Mathematics Trust’s Senior Maths Challenge, which took place on Tuesday 7th November.

The nationwide competition, which centres on problem solving, involves Years 11, 12 and 13 students tackling a series of challenging questions in 90 minutes, using a wide variety of mathematical techniques.

This year’s results illustrate an excellent performance by our students who achieved 13 Gold, 51 Silver and 50 Bronze certificates. In addition 14 students qualified for the follow-on round.

Congratulations to all students but particularly to Year 13 students Matthew De Asha, Alex Ghorbal, Andrew Kean, Ryan McCrae, Alex Quayle and Yan Shi, Year 12 students Katie Burt, Samuel Hudson, Saad Khan, Mahyar Kolivand, Jonathan Liu, Adam Smith and Thomas Widdows, and from Year 11 Rujun Huang, who all qualified for the Senior Kangaroo, which will take place on Friday 1st December.

We wish our senior mathematicians the best of luck as they prepare to compete in the follow on round.

Senior Team Maths Challenge

On Wednesday 15 November Sam Hudson, Saad Khan, Alex Ghorbal and Oliver Lambert-Brown represented The Blue Coat School at the Regional Final of the Senior Team Maths Challenge, which tests mathematical problem-solving, team-work and communication skills. The team worked well together, dropping very few marks to come a valiant third in a tightly fought competition.

Congratulations to all students.
