Welcome to the Liverpool Blue Coat School!
We
are an oversubscribed (6:1) Voluntary Aided Selective Co-educational
Secondary School and the only Grammar School in Liverpool. The school
admits 120 students into Year 7 each September. We also have a thriving
Sixth Form, which caters for an additional 300 students. Overall, therefore,
we have approximately 900 students on roll.
The Blue Coat School has a fine academic tradition. The great majority of students gain five good passes or more at GCSE level and proceed into the Sixth Form. Here more than 60% of Advanced Level grades are at A or B and most students go on to University. The school is very proud of its academic achievements and we are continually striving to build on these and improve.
The school is situated in its own grounds on Church Road in the Wavertree district of Liverpool about three miles from the City Centre. The buildings are owned by the School Foundation and boast some fine architectural features including the Clock Tower and elegant Chapel, which is still in daily use. The school has recently benefited from a £9 million facelift, which has seen the construction of new buildings as well as refurbishment of the older provision. This new development was officially opened by Lord Derby in 2004. Additionally, the school has been designated as a Specialist School in Science and Mathematics. [read more]
