Friday 26th May marked Year 13’s final full day as Blue Coat students, but it also heralded the start of their new connection with The Blue Coat School as Old Blues.

Celebrations commenced with the traditional Blue Coat Leavers’ Service, led by Assistant Head Ms Holland, in the School Chapel. Centering on the theme of friendship, Ms Holland accompanied by Head Teacher Mr Pennington, Key Stage 5 Leaders and students, reflected on the experiences and opportunities they have collectively shared over the past seven years. Described by Ms Holland as a “thoughtful, enthusiastic, feisty, supportive and quirky” , the Class of 2017 will be greatly missed by teaching and support staff alike.

Demonstrating their passion for music, a talented group of eight singers drew the service to a close with a superb rendition of The Beatles Let it Be, which was enjoyed by the audience not once but twice.

The celebrations continued in the Boardroom where our students were joined by guest speaker Daniel Nicolson from the Class of 2003, who officially welcomed the Class of 2017 into our international network of Old Blues. Daniel, who is Founder and Managing Director of Cleversteam, a global digital agency whose client list includes Sports England, and fellow Old Blue and Olympian Steve Parry’s organisation Total Swimming, highlighted the many ways the Class of 2017 can stay in touch with the School and encouraged them to share their skills and expertise with Blue Coat students in the future.

We wish the Class of 2017 the very best of luck in their upcoming summer examinations and look forward to sharing their future successes with the Old Blues community.
