From Monday 13th – Friday 17th November, our Computer Science students took part in the UK Bebras Computational Thinking Challenge.

This is only the second year that we have entered this competition and the results are staggering. Students performed fantastically well, achieving certificates in each of the three age categories entered as follows:

  • Junior (Year 7) – 101 Distinctions and 45 Merits
  • Intermediate (Year 8 and Year 9) – 166 Distinctions and 27 Merits
  • Senior (Year 10) – 35 Distinctions and 19 Merits

Particular congratulations go to Xi Nan Shu and Ethan Rigby in Year 7 who were our top two highest scorers in the Junior level by some margin. Ben Whitehead in Year 9 was our highest scorer in the Intermediate level, and Gorakh Adhikari, Sai Mong and Harry Rigby were our best in the Senior level.
We are currently waiting to hear which students will be invited to attend a final round and celebration in the new year.

Additionally, the top 10% of students nationally will be invited to enter a follow-on competition, the TCS Oxford Computing Competition in March 2018. This will involve an impressive 175 Blue Coat Computer Scientists.

Congratulations everyone.
