During the start of the summer term, Head of Modern Foreign Languages Mrs Jackson organised an exchange trip to Bordeaux for students in Years 7, 8 and 9, to enable them to focus on their French speaking skills and experience daily life in Bordeaux.

For our summer newsletter Year 8 student Larissa, reflects on her recent visit to the popular French city.

“On the 13th of June, a large number of French exchange students arrived at Liverpool John Lennon airport. Over the course of their week long trip they visited a number of Liverpool’s, and the North West’s, most popular tourist destinations. During the evenings and weekend we had time to get to know our French visitors. A week later, we travelled to Bordeaux.

When I arrived, the family of my French exchange partner greeted me. They were extremely welcoming and I spent the evening chatting in French and swimming in their pool. It was my first visit to Bordeaux and I was amazed at how different but yet similar to Liverpool it was.

As the week progressed we attended classes at a local school, watched the school show, a fantastic rendition of a Cirque du Soleil, played an interactive escape game, visited the Dunes du Pilat and Arcachon, a town close to Bordeaux, and visited Bordeaux’s historic old town. I also enjoyed visiting the beach, going shopping, kayaking and practising my French with my exchange partner.

This exchange was a wonderful opportunity for myself and fellow Blue Coat French students. I would like to say an enormous thank you to all staff, both English and French, for all of the hard work and effort that went into planning this trip. It was an amazing experience and I hope to do it again next year!”
